In Bahasa Indonesia : Mengupas Kerang di Jakarta
This artwork came up from the idea of particular space where the city and the sea meet. Human doesn’t physically built to live in the sea. We create tools and place ourselves in spaces where we don’t need to surpass our physical limit to interact with the sea. That’s why when we talked about the sea we can’t separate it from the space in between the city and the sea. It is a place where human can interact with the sea without having to dive into the sea.
I identified different character of places based on their function in Jakarta’s Shoreline as the space in between and found Kampung Nelayan Tangkas dan Kerang Hijau, next to the new Muara Angke Port or often called Kali Adem Port. They categorized as kampung of traditional fishermen and shellfish fishermen. Not only fishing but they have this unique livelihood where they collect shellfish meat by peeling it and sell only the meat.
This Kampung inspired me to create an installation art where I invite people to know more about this particular Kampung. I built a space with Kampung’s space forming elements and creates a little journey in order for people to be immersed in this particular space and give them chance to get to know this kampung better.
